Reflections on
New Orleans Trip:

Serving the community has ever been an educational experience for me, and the Catholic Center's trip to New Orleans was especially so. To see the city in its deplorable state of abandonment and decay so many months after the hurricane brought home to me most dramatically the failures of that popular ideology of individualism and a laissez-faire government. Never before have I seen so concrete a refutation of such beliefs... where we fail to support and serve our neighbor there can be only misery. All the more satisfying it was, then, to be engaged in physical labor alongside spirited and determined young men and women, not to recreate the old New Orleans, but to build with love and companionship a true "City of God."
