Ministers of Altar

Liturgical Ministries of the Altar

The attitude, care and manner of liturgical ministers are a sign to the congregation that we all share and take part together in the celebration of the Mass.  The Mass is the source and summit of all we do together as God’s holy people, and there are many opportunities to help here at the Catholic Campus Ministry at Syracuse University.

All are welcome to help in the following ministries:

  • Eucharistic Ministers
  • Lectors
  • Greeters

Eucharistic Ministers

Many community members are needed to help in the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ during the Communion Rite. Those who assist the presider in the distribution of Holy Communion bring to their service:

  • Deep faith in the Real Presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist
  • A prayerful heart
  • A reverence for those gathered

Lectors

The Lector proclaims the Word of God during Mass, allowing all to hear and absorb the Holy Scriptures effectively and beautifully. Lectors proclaim the Scriptures so that they command the rightful attention and reverence of all gathered.

Greeters

Greet people warmly, help people sit together, pass out programs or worship aids, take up the collection, help maintain good order during Holy Communion, and distribute bulletins following the liturgy. All members of the Syracuse University  community are welcome to participate in this ministry.

Training Sessions

At the beginning of each semester, training sessions and workshops will be held for each of the liturgical ministries.  Please contact Fr. Linus to inquire about  training  or be added to our Liturgical Ministers at ldesanti@syr.edu

Liturgical Ministry Scheduling

Monthly schedules are emailed  to all Liturgical Ministers the week prior to the month and the list is posted at the link:  Liturgical Ministry Monthly Schedule.  We ask that if there is a conflict and you are unable to serve, to please find a replacement from the main contact list.  A reminder email is sent to each minister on the week that you are scheduled to serve at the altar.  We ask that you take this responsibility seriously  and we thank you for your participation. Please contact Terri Condon for any scheduling questions at TCondon@syr.edu
