Spiritual Development & Direction

Spiritual Development & Direction

The St. Thomas More Catholic Community offers a wide range of opportunities for faith formation and spiritual growth.  We realize that the comfort level of each person Is different.  Acknowledging   this, we provide an opportunity for faith direction  in both  a large group setting  and  in an individual spiritual direction appointment.

Spiritual Counseling

This facet of the spiritual assists an individual dealing with a specific area of need.  While spiritual direction is ordinarily of longer term, spiritual counseling is focused on a particular need, which at times may require recommendation to other sources for assistance.  For an apppointment, please contact Fr. Linus at 315-478-5959 or email at ldesanti@syr.edu

Retreats

Retreat 09 at Alverna Hgts.

Intercollegiate Retreats

Each Fall and Spring, several college campus ministries from around the Central NY Area attend an overnight retreat at Alverna Heights in Fayetteville, NY.   Alverna Heights is run by the Sisters of St. Francis and is located adjacent to Green Lakes State Park. The retreat center is approximately 20 minutes from campus, but worlds away.

The retreat center offers a place where students can walk the trails through the woods, visit the horses housed by the Sisters, and renew themselves by resting and reflecting in the many chapel areas.  The retreats are led by the students from each college community – the overnight offers time for fun, food, fellowship and faith sharing.  The retreats run  from Friday evening  to Saturday afternoon, concluding with Mass.

For more information about dates and to sign up for a retreat, please contact Fr. Linus at ldesanti@syr.edu or Terri Condon at TCondon@syr.edu

Become a part of our High School Retreat Team –  we offer several retreats throughout the school year.  Each retreat offers an afternoon of fun, faith sharing and fellowship.

Please contact  Fr. Linus or Terri Condon to sign up for the Retreat Team.

Scripture Study

For learning, inspiration, insight, role models and for a challenge, these give the impetus to study Scripture. Currently on Monday nights at 7:30PM, we pursue the Scriptures under the title expressing a desire to see, “What’s in it for me?”

All You Wanted To Know About Catholicism But Never Bothered To Ask

The facilitator draws the questions from the minds’ deep recesses of those present and brings them to be spoken. As the title reads, it is a matter of drawing forth questions which lead to observations, explanations, doctrine and scripture and Church teaching. The intent is to raise the consciousness of the participants to understand what we believe, why we believe what we believe, and do what we do.
